Train With a Partner

Train with a partner. This will mean you will push yourself more and you will also push your partner. If they are about the same level of fitness as you then you will compete against them and if you are not feeling like exercising one day, they can make sure you do!

Keep a Diary

Keep track of what exercise you do, how long for and at what intensity. This will allow you to compare sessions and aim to improve, in turn causing you to progress. It will also increase your motivation as you have evidence that you have worked hard. It can be as simple as a writing, “jogging, 30 minutes, 3 miles” in a diary! Try to make each workout a little bit harder than the last one. Even by adding one more rep!

Vary Ab Workouts

To add a bit of variety to your abdominal workouts, use an exercise ball. They are cheap and make your exercises a bit more challenging. This can be one effective way to increase the tone of your stomach. Check out Challenges for an alternative workout!

Train Abs

Train the abdominal muscles every week. Not everyone has the most defined 6 pack but everyone had abdominal muscles! They help the body move in a controlled manner and prevent injury. This means they are used in almost every exercise to maintain balance and posture. Strengthening the abs means injury is a lot less likely to occur, especially in the lower back as they help support weight and take work away from the back muscles. It will lead to increased strength elsewhere, such as when doing weighted squats.

Eat 6 Meals Not 3!

Instead of eating 3 big meals a day of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner; aim to eat 6 smaller meals a day. This has been proven to help increase the metabolic rate, prevent random cravings, reduce the body's fat store, prevent hunger and maintain good energy levels throughout the day! Think of it as a fire, instead of having a really hot fire for 30 mins before it goes out, keep a small one going constantly. This way, combined with a healthy lifestyle, you build lean body mass. The greater the lean body mass, the more calories it will naturally burn at rest!
